What is dental pulp?

It is the soft tissue that contains the nerves and blood vessels of the tooth, the pulp is located within the canals of the dental roots and inflammation or infection of it is usually manifested with:

  • Pain.
  • Prolonged sensitivity to heat or cold.
  • Discoloration of the tooth.
  • Swelling or an abscess oozing from the gums.

Cavities, repeated dental procedures, cracks or trauma to the tooth are some of the causes that can cause the pulp to become irritated, inflamed or infected.
